以安徒生童話與酪農業聞名於世的丹麥，首都哥本哈根的小美人魚雕像與風力發電也很有名，國民所得與人類發展指數都很高。但因地理位置夾在數個歐陸強權國家的必爭之地，歷史上僅能在英德俄法奧等列強的夾縫中求得生存，特別是德國，二戰期間也因靠攏德國，得以尋求有限的自治權力。
丹麥在軍事武器裝備上以美歐系為主，.歐系則主要是德系武裝，由於位置處在北海與波羅的海的交界，但丹麥又不是歐洲軍事強國，因此在冷戰時期主要以幫北約偵測與控制前蘇聯海軍進出波羅的海與北海活動為主，因此潛艇都為近岸潛艇，並不需要執行遠洋任務，且由於冷戰結束，前蘇聯的威脅大幅度降低，丹麥的潛艦已於2005年全數退役，目前海軍主力僅剩水面艦艇。但近期由於俄烏戰爭影響，已有重新投資與發展潛艦部隊的呼聲。丹麥海軍二戰後初期以租借英國潛艦為主，自海豚級後則改採德製潛艇為主，水面主力艦艇則是採德荷共同開發的歐系神盾艦，空軍主力戰機為美製F-16AM/BM，未來也將換裝F-35A，陸軍MBT則以德製豹二式主戰戰車為主。
