目前世界主力的商業甚至軍事用噴射飛機發動機為渦輪風扇引擎,而前三大渦輪引擎製造商主要為通用電氣(GE/General Electric)、勞斯萊斯(RR/Rolls-Royce) 以及普惠(P&W/Pratt & Whitney),而這三家公司也分別與其他日歐系航太公司或彼此合資成立了三家公司進一步搶佔市佔率- General Electricm與法國Safran 有合資公司CFM International,Pratt & Whitney 則特別為了空中巴士A320家族引擎與日本Aero Engine Corporation和德國MTU Aero Engines成立了合資公司 International Aero Engines,Pratt & Whitney 與General Electric 也成立了合資公司Engine Alliance生產空中巴士A380等飛機用的引擎。
俄羅斯與中國雖然也生產不少飛機引擎,但因為噪音過大並無法飛航西方國家的民用機場,所以目前主要也是採用西方國家的引擎或民航機來發展他們自身的民航飛機與民航業,而烏克蘭雖然為前蘇聯時代的大型飛機開發重鎮,但目前也是主要採用西方引擎做為自家的民航機或大型軍用機用引擎。
